Changes coming to IUSD Board

By Kenneth Miller | Publisher

Joe W. Bowers, veteran journalist and longtime education advocate whose opinions about the beleaguered Inglewood Unified School District has opened the eyes of residents and community leaders, will bring his vision and acumen to the Inglewood Unified School District as a Board Member Trustee in Area 2. Bowers garnered 63.82%, out polling Shelby Richardson (36.18%) in the Nov. 3 General Election.

He knows the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) and is prepared to serve as the district approaches the return of local control in the near future.

The Inglewood resident provides the community with an individual who understands the district, listens to their concerns and will keep the board focused on results.

Few if anyone has been more keenly aware of the shortcomings of the IUSD, especially its finances, after studying the district for more than a decade.

During his questionnaire Bowers offered the following:

Student Achievement-A steady focus on reading, mathematics and preparation for life after graduation.

Financial Stability-Careful oversight so the district does not repeat the mistakes that led to state intervention.

Safe, Strong Schools-Support for teachers, safe campuses and a meaningful community voice.

In Area 1, Joyce Randall (56.57%) defeated Block Club Captain Cheryl Shaw-Williams (36.18%), and in Area 3 Yaritza A. Gonzales (65.63%) ousted incumbent Brandon George Myers (34.37%).
